Consideration of Contract Award:  Executive Search Firm for City Manager Recruitment.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve the selection and contract award to Ralph Anderson & Associates, Inc., an executive search firm located in Rocklin, California, for a total fee not to exceed $24,500.00 for professional services and all applicable expenses.

Rick Compau, Purchasing Director, gave a brief overview of staff’s efforts to screen and hire a new search firm for the recruitment of a City Manager.  The screening committee, which consisted of himself, Theresa Alvarado, Personnel Director, and Councilmember White, considered vendors from the statewide Strategic Alliance for Volume Expenditures.  Three firms were interviewed, including Gilbert Tweed & Associates, Ralph Andersen & Associates, and Colin Baenziger & Associates.

The committee recommends Ralph Andersen & Associates due to their significant experience in placing top municipal positions and their competitive pricing.  The firm has agreed to appoint four members of their staff to Flagstaff’s search in order to meet the City Charter deadline.

The Council stated its intention to find the best candidate for the position, who is the correct fit for Flagstaff, and will not be willing to place anyone less in order to meet the deadline.

Councilmember Kelty moved to approve the recommended action, seconded by Councilmember White.  The vote was unanimous in favor.
