Recycling and Diversion Statistics
Materials Recovery Facility and Cinder Lake LandfillBe Resourceful FSP BlackTransparent.png
The City works closely with the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and Cinder Lake Landfill to track our monthly recycling and diversion rate. According to the most recent data available from the Environmental Protection Agency, the City recycling rate falls below the national average of 33.8%.
  • Diversion Rate: The amount or percent of material diverted from traditional landfill disposal. For the City of Flagstaff this includes materials brought to the Hazardous Product Center and glass, green waste and paper sludge that is either turned in to mulch / landscaping materials or used as alternative daily cover.
  • Recycling Rate: The recycling rate is the amount of materials sent to the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) that can be sold for recycling. It is listed as a percent of the total solid waste sent to both the landfill and MRF.
