General Information

The Flagstaff Sustainability Section empowers Flagstaff to be resilient and resourceful.

Albert is an Abert's squirrel and has lived in Flagstaff his whole life. He has a lot of questions about what he can do to help make Flagstaff a better place. Click here to see some of the things he has learned!

Our Commissions
We rely on our two amazing commissions for input on Open Spaces and on general Sustainability. You can attend their meetings on the fourth Monday and Thursday of every month.

Community Events
Each year we organize a variety of community events to empower our community. Click here to find out more.

Information about the accomplishments we have achieved since 2007, along with our Municipal Sustainability Plan can be found on our Plans and Reports page.

The Sustainability Section currently employs four full time staff: the Sustainability Manager, two Sustainability Specialists, and a Volunteer and Event Coordinator. In addition, the section also employs a full time temporary Open Space Specialist, and two AmeriCorps Aides. You can contact specific Sustainability Section staff by viewing the staff directory.

The Sustainability Section's operating budget is provided by funds from the Environmental Management (EM) Fee.
The current EM Fee is $4/month per City of Flagstaff utility bill. This funds a portion of the Brownfield Land Recycling Program and the Sustainability & Environmental Management Section (SEMS) programs, which include Environmental Management, Conservation and Sustainability. The remaining funding for these programs comes from part of the Environmental Services Enterprise Fund (e.g., landfill fees). More information on the Environmental Management Fee is available.
