Master Recycler
Become a Master Recycler
14440795_1161535643894499_6859144523309315238_n.jpg Join fellow waste reduction enthusiasts and become an advocate for the three Rs in your community as a Flagstaff Master Recycler.

Master Recyclers are trained on waste prevention and composting through an extensive six week course that features industry experts and field trips to local waste processing and recycling facilities.

Once the training is complete, participants commit to volunteer activities include staffing booths at events, or help with community projects like Fix-it Clinics, event recycling, and green teams at work.
 

Learn from the Experts
Join 30 recycling enthusiasts in an extensive six-week course that features lessons from industry experts and tours of local waste and recycling facilities. You'll learn about: 

  • Sustainable behavior change theory
  • Fixing and reusing
  • The sharing community
  • Toxics reduction
  • Residential recycling and waste hauling programs
  • Event and public space recycling
  • Backyard composting
  • Food waste prevention

Classes are taught by professionals from the public and private sector who are working on innovative solutions to environmental challenges. 

Course graduates agree to volunteer 30 hours putting their skills to work to help others learn the three Rs: reduce the amount of natural resources used, reuse material, and recycle what cannot be salvaged.

Course Schedule
The spring 2017 course will be held:

  • Dates: Wednesday evenings, February 8, 15, and 22, and March 1, 8 and 22.
  • Time: 6 - 8 pm 
  • Location: East Flagstaff Community Library, 3000 N 4th St #5, Flagstaff, AZ 86004

Cost
The course costs $50 and includes all course materials. A discounted price of $30 is offered to NAU, CCC, and local high school students. Partial and full scholarships are also available through no extra application.

Registration for the spring 2016 course is now open. You can apply online here. You can also fill out an application and email it to Dylan Lenzen at or drop it off in-person to the Sustainability Section office at 101 W Cherry Ave, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
