Overview
Discrimination can be obvious and easily recognized, but many times it is subtle or apologetic.  When people discriminate against you because of race, color, sex, religion, handicap, familial status (i.e. - having one or more children), or national origin, they are denying your fair housing rights.

Prohibited Actions
The following actions by owners or housing providers are prohibited when based on race, color, sex, religion, handicap, familial status, or national origin when selling or renting a house, residential lot, or apartment:
  • Advertising specifically for a certain type of buyer or tenant
  • Allowing unlawful bias to affect the appraisal value of a property
  • Charging more to buy, rent, or asking for a larger security deposit based on personal attributes
  • Denying access or use of the facility or service that is normally available with occupancy
  • Denying credit
  • Denying services available to others
  • Falsely proclaiming the property is sold or rented
  • Insisting that you live in a predetermined "family area"
  • Refusing to allow handicap accommodations for an assisting aide, assistance animal, parking, or physical modifications
  • Refusing to show, rent, or sell
  • Refusing to negotiate
  • Suggesting you move to an area where you don't want to live
  • Telling owners or renters to move because the neighborhood is being integrated
