Trash Guidelines
- Materials such as small trimmings and yard debris should fit easily into the container.
- Animal wastes should be wrapped in plastic bags and tied.
- Diabetic sharps such as needles and syringes must be placed in a sealed sturdy plastic container such as a laundry detergent container, sealed with duct tape, write "NOT recyclable" on the container-then the container is ready for disposal. - 150 pounds is the maximum weight when full.
- Lids should be closed.
Unacceptable Items
The following materials should not be placed in trash containers. These materials can harm trash collectors, the equipment, and the environment.
- Liquids of any type
- Hot coals, ashes or lit cigarettes.
- Building and construction debris including dirt, rocks, tree trunks, carpets or large scraps.
- Furniture, appliances or auto parts including water heaters, major appliances, couches, chairs, car bumpers, fenders, engine blocks, batteries, or any items over 50 pounds.
- Unwrapped sharp objects including broken glass should be well-wrapped in newspaper before placing it in the trash.
- Household Hazardous Waste: CFLs, fluorescent linear lamps, paint, cleaning fluids, motor oil, insecticides, solvents, acids, gasoline, batteries, cell phones, electronics, televisions, mercury thermostats and thermometers, pool chemicals, highly flammable liquids, radioactive materials, gardening or toxic chemicals.
- Medical waste from home health care services may require special disposal - talk to your doctor or provider about disposal instructions.
Container Information
To ensure easy collection, please use these guidelines:
- Containers must be placed curbside by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day.
- Place the container on the street, wheels against the curb and with the handle facing your home
- Do not blocking the sidewalk.
- Containers should be at least three feet from any other obstructions, lamp posts, mailbox posts, other containers, parked cars, or trees.
- Automated collection containers shall be removed from the curbside on the same day the container is serviced.
- Each container is assigned to the residence, not the customer.
- To request additional containers or to report lost or stolen containers, please contact Solid waste. In some cases, a replacement charge of $72 will be assessed if damage to container was due to negligence.
Disability Assistance
Collection Services provides assistance with containers for disabled or elderly residents. On your service days, the driver will roll out your container, service it, and roll it back in. Please follow the steps below to obtain this service:
- Contact Customer Service to request a form for Roll-Out Service.
- Get the form completed by your physician.
- Mail or fax the completed form to our office; fax (928) 556-1236; the form is pre-addressed for mailing.
- Maintenance will place yellow tape around the containers. Please do not remove the tape as this will help identify your containers as being eligible for the Roll-Out Service.
