How does a pedestrian hybrid signal work?

Pedestrian hybrid signals are managed by ADOT. There is currently a pedestrian hybrid signal on West Route 66.

The signals are present in marked, unsignaled crosswalk areas which are marked where pedestrians will be crossing a street or highway.

A flashing yellow light indicates drivers should slow down. A solid yellow light indicates drivers should prepare to stop. A double-red light indicates drivers should stop to allow pedestrians to cross. A flashing red light alerts drivers to stop, then proceed with caution if the crosswalk is clear. If no lights are illuminated, drivers may proceed if the crosswalk is clear.

Additional information may be found at the Transportation Engineering Pedestrian Traffic Control Devices and from ADOT at the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon webpages.
