1. A street light is out near my residence or place of business.

The Streets section provides a streetlight check on a quarterly basis and provides maintenance and repair of  all street lights.

To report a non-working City streetlight, please utilize the Citizen Request Tracker or contact the Streets section at (928) 213-2175 during normal business hours. The Streets section may be reached at the aforementioned phone number Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. 

Please provide the following information:

- The location or address of the light

- The pole number located on the streetlight pole if possible

- Your name and daytime phone number

To report a private street or a dusk-to-dawn light, please contact the APS Phoenix Construction office at (602) 371-6140.

2. How does a pedestrian hybrid signal work?

Pedestrian hybrid signals are managed by ADOT. There is currently a pedestrian hybrid signal on West Route 66. 

The signals are present in marked, unsignaled crosswalk areas which are marked where pedestrians will be crossing a street or highway.

A flashing yellow light indicates drivers should slow down. A solid yellow light indicates drivers should prepare to stop. A double-red light indicates drivers should stop to allow pedestrians to cross. A flashing red light alerts drivers to stop, then proceed with caution if the crosswalk is clear. If no lights are illuminated, drivers may proceed if the crosswalk is clear.

4. I live near an alleyway downtown and would like to report an area which may need maintenance.

Downtown alleys, considered right-of-way or easement access areas, are generally under the maintenance of the Streets section. The streets section manages annual grading of dirt alleys. 

During snow operations, the Parks section assists with clearance.

5. I need information associated with Blue Stake.

Please call Blue Stake directly at (602) 659-7500 or dial 811 to produce a ticket with Blue Stake.

6. I need to report an issue with a street sign.

Please report any downed Stop signs or One-Way signs immediately to (928) 213-2175 during normal business hours. The Streets section may be reached at the aforementioned phone number Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. After hours, please call the Flagstaff Police Department at (928) 774-1414.

For other downed or missing signs, please utilize the Citizen Request Tracker or call the Streets section at (928) 213-2175 during normal business hours and leave a detailed message.

If you are requesting a new sign or have a concern for a safety issue, please contact the Traffic Engineering section directly at (928) 213-2692. The Traffic Engineering section may be reached at the aforementioned phone number during normal business hours Monday - Friday from 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

7. I need to report a repair issue on a City maintained street (potholes, drainage, grading, guardrail repairs).

Please report non-emergency problems with any of the following:

- Potholes

- Drainage Problems and Shoulders (Curbs and Gutters)

- Grading of Dirt Roads

- Guardrail Repairs

8. I need to request sidewalk replacement or repairs near my residence or place of business.

Please fill-out the Sidewalk Replacement form. After the form has been submitted, staff from the Streets section will review the information and visit the site. Please review additional details at our Sidewalk Replacement webpage.

9. I would like additional information concerning the status of Street Maintenance Projects.

10. I would like additional information associated with street striping in the City of Flagstaff.

Street striping is performed in both the fall and spring seasons as temperature and weather conditions allow. Long lines are painted annually, and directional (crosswalk markings and turn arrows) markings addressed as needed.

11. I would like additional information associated with the Street Sweeping Program.

The Streets section operates one (1) daytime sweeper and two (2) nighttime sweepers, dividing the City into geographical areas. Sweepers modify scheduling depending on the weather conditions. 

Spring/Summer - Operations are regulated to cleaning main routes on a weekly basis and residential streets monthly. The immediate downtown is swept with greater frequency as needed. 

Fall/Winter - Operations are regulated to cleaning main routes on a weekly basis and residential streets monthly. Following winter storm events, all routes and bike lanes are swept as soon as possible.

12. I would like to report a dead animal in the roadway.

Please report large game to the Streets section at (928) 213-2175 during normal business hours. Please include any relevant information, such as type of animal, location, and mile marker information. The Streets section may be reached at the aforementioned phone number Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

Large game removal on I-40 or I-17 is handled by ADOT.  Please contact ADOT at 1-800-648-2531.  

Please contact the Solid Waste section for smaller animals (cats, rabbits, skunks) at (928) 213-2110 during normal business hours. The Solid Waste section will assist with pick-up at the request of property owners for a fee of $86.58. The Solid Waste section may be reached at the aforementioned phone number Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.

13. I would like to report a drainage issue.

The Water Services Stormwater section assists with storm drain related issues.

14. I would like to report a traffic signal issue.

The Traffic signal crew is responsible for all signals and pedestrian flashers throughout the City.

The exceptions are, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is responsible for traffic signals on Route 66, Milton, and Hwy 180 (Humphreys).

To report a malfunctioning City traffic signal light please call (928) 213-2175 during normal business hours (Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM). After hours, please contact the Flagstaff Police Department at (928) 774-1414.

15. I would like to report a vegetation issue.

Public Works handles vegetation and landscape issues. The Parks section handles certain city improved landscape medians, rights-of-way, and decorative shrubs and trees. The Streets section handles any hazardous downed trees or obstructive vegetation that impedes visibility in the roadway.

To report hazardous or emergency vegetation issues, please call the Parks section for vegetation in medians at (928) 213-2161 or the Streets section regarding hazardous trees/obstructive vegetation at (928) 213-2175 during normal business hours. Please provide a detailed account, including location information and vegetation size/type as applicable.

If you are requesting trimming for City property which borders private property, please be advised that the property may be considered a Public Way. Public Ways fall under the Property Sidewalk Maintenance Code. Section # 8-03-001-0004 of the City code prohibits dirt, cinders, snow, ice, or any other obstruction from remaining on public sidewalks. The code states that any owner, occupant, tenant or person caring for any building, lot or parcel of land that borders a public sidewalk is responsible for those area and sidewalk conditions. All debris is to be removed.

16. I would like to report a potentially hazardous or downed tree.

Trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner to have trimmed or removed by a tree removal service unless the tree is causing a traffic hazard/visual obstruction for traffic. Downed trees on private property are the responsibility of the property owner to have removed by a tree removal service.

Please report any hazardous or emergency vegetation issues to the Parks section at (928) 213-2161 or the Streets section at (928) 213-2175 and provide a detailed account. Hazardous/obstructive vegetation includes, but is not limited to, large branches that have broken or trees that have blown over obstructing public right-of-ways.

17. I would like to request information about the status of various repair projects around the City.

18. Is the pedestrian cross-walk signal lighting working correctly?

Four (4) types of Pedestrian Traffic Control Devices are used within the City of Flagstaff: Circular Flashing Beacon (CFB), Circular Rapid Flashing Beacon (CRFB), Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB), and Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB), also referred to as the HAWK (High intensity Activated CrossWalK). 

All four (4) devices essentially work in the same manner. When a pedestrian approaches an intersection, they will need to push the pedestrian button in order to activate the signal. 

Some of locations have a pedestrian refuge (island) in the middle of the roadway – these areas have two (2) buttons which need to be pushed. For example, the crosswalks at the intersection of Third Avenue and Fourth Street have a pedestrian refuge. If yellow flashing pedestrian crosswalk signals are not working on one side of the crosswalk while a pedestrian is within the pedestrian refuge, the citizen should verify that both sets of pedestrian buttons were pushed (one at the initial curb and the one at the pedestrian refuge median). Pedestrians should push both sets of pedestrian buttons to get both sides of the crosswalk signal to illuminate.
